Crochet Do

Tonya called me up to request the style she saw her cousins showed of me on Facebook. It is definitely a variation of my hair. The hair was a shorter length and a looser Marley Braid Hair. There were two bundles in the bag, and the top 2 inches of the ends of the bundles were straight.  Not sure why, but we worked it out. I added some Kanekelon braid hair to the cornrows for fullness and crochets the hair in at he top and Voila, Magic!  Tonya was in a wedding this weekend.  She could not stay out of the mirror or stop smiling.                      kinks&style

Box Braids

I may have been over my head or already beat down from hair this past week.  I installed my second set of braids in one week. my estimated time is 4.5- 6 hours.  Karis was a great client. She trusted my hands, and anticipated her style. My hands are hurting from the kanekelon hair and I cut my fingers with scissors.  I am so ready to work on a set of Box Braids on myself real soon, but can I take the pain?

My Roots

So I did it, or I should say, I am doing it. I am in the process of installing some box/individual braids for a client. I told her it has been years, but she was ready.  I am definitely going back to my roots of homestyling and boxbraiding...We started @ 7pm, but she had to leave @ 9:30pm for work.  I am thinking maybe a total 5 hours for installation. We shall see.    I just flat twisted the portion that I did not finish up on the top and in the back. I dipped the completed braids in hot boiling water and french braided them and she threw on a hat and kept it moving...We are finishing up on Thursday.  Here is the beginning. Pics a lil blurry, better pics to come.

Still

I am still in my protective style, and since I have so many doubters...I will Continue on until next Friday-9/28.  I do not understand why it is so hard for me to hold on to one style. The best thing about the style is it is stylable. I am able to twist, tuck, and tie this hair to make it interesting.  Which I have to admit I do several times a day.  One reason is due to the abundance of Marley's Hair on my head.  Wow.  I will definitely use less hair next time.  This will be on heavy rotation during my 3-2-1 Protect challenge. I have been maintaining my hair Twist 'n locs itch free conditioning spray and Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I even used a little Aloe Vera Gel on my hair today for my edges and kitchen.  I have fell out with the Sta Sof Fro, I cannot take the smell, but it is a great moisturizer.

My issues with my cell phone have slowed down my bloggin life....I was out of a phone for a few days week before last b/c I dropped my phone outside of may car and it was rained on all night and into the next day.  I put my phone in a bag of rice for another day.  I was actually able to use it for one day until it bombed.  Needless to say I received my replacement, and the camera is not as good as my old phone that was beat to def...Anywho, I will show more updated pics.

I went to Mary J Blige this weekend and took one pitiful pic in the car on the way there.  kinks&dos

Kitchen Coils

Drea tried out the kitchen.  She has transitioned for 8 months and BC'd herself 2 weeks ago.  We decided to do a Fauxhauk.

I washed & conditioned with Giovanni 50:50 shampoo&conditioner
Elasta QP H2 leave in, olive oil, and Miss Jessie's butter creme.

I braided up the sides with Jamaican Mango&Lime Lock Wax , and coiled the center with ORS Lock & Twist gel. The goal is to separate the coils in a few days for a fuller Coil Out...Check it out.

3 - 2 - 1 Protect

I have decided to go on a mini protective style challenge for myself.  To retain length, and promote less manipulation, protective styles must be used during the fall and winter months.  This week I have began a protective style with a goal of 3 weeks.  I plan on 1, 2, and 3 week protective style challenges. Soooo, I have been somewhat obsessed with crochet braid videos, and I saw a few styles I would like to sample on myself and other volunteers.

Instead of jumping in full on, I decided to sample a crochet style. Sistergirl braided up the sides and braided down the top center of my hair and crocheted some Marley Braid hair in the top only.  I found a bag of hair, and Sistergirl braided my hair up super tight and quickly saw that we needed another bag, so we ran out and all I could find out of 3 BSS was 2 bags in the wrong color 1, I like to use 1B.  So I scooped them up and we ran home and finished it up. We used a bag and a half of hair.  We definitely noticed some changes for the next install.

During the protection styling, I will alternate between Sta Sof Fro and Twist n Locs Itch Free Conditioning Spray to moisturize, and seal w/Castor oil.  In between, I will use:

Giovanni 50:50 / Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo
Giovanni 50:50 / SM Restorative Conditioner
KT Leave in / Elasta QP H2 , jojoba oil, keracare buttercream

On my off days, I will wear twistouts with various creams and concoctions. Mostly Aloe Vera Gel and Castor oil.

I have an order of Jamaican Black Castor oil on its way, and I have all of these Miss Jessie's Products. What to do, what to do?!?

Good Fro

As good as my fro has been to me this past week, it is dirty, even after the cowash on Friday night.  Although my kinks have been defined into "corkscrews" as an ex-coworker called them, it is time to wash it, and take a risk. Will I have a good or bad hair week. My definition of

bad=unruly, crunchy, not doin what I want it to do.  Get it right kinks!  This fro has given me a great updo, has set with Eco styler, and gave me a great wash n go-look.

I am crossing my fingers on good manageable hair as last week which means using

prepoo olive oil,SM Restorative conditioner
wash-SM curl&shine shampoo
condition-Giovanni 50:50
leave-in-aloe vera, jojoba & paul mitchell-the conditioner
twist with-ORS smooth n hold pudding   /   ORS Loc&Twist gel   /   Ecostyler custard (olive oil ecostyler,PM-the conditioner, and olive oil)

I wrapped my gold band through the fro and rocked my modified Chloe K band on top of the forehead...I was called everything from a hippie to Wonder Woman-looksee!

ECO Custard

I whipped up an Ecostyler Styler Custard to do my twistout on Freshly cowashed hair. I used Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner. I shook my hair and separated it in 5 sections. I mixed up an older jar of Ecostyler Olive oil Gel, Paul Mitchell-the conditioner, and Olive Oil. If I measured I would say it was.

2 parts Ecostlyer (pale green)
1 part Olive oil (dark green)
1 part Paul Mitchell-The Conditioner (blue)
I mixed it all up and it turned white???

After the cowash, I applied PM-The conditioner, and Carol's Daughter Honey Hair Mimosa on my hair and twisted with the custard. I left he twists in overnight and had a super defined twistout. It was ok, just not as stretched as I would like it.  It would probably do well on dry stretched hair in bigger twists. i pinned it up in the back with combs.  Last night after going out, I stayed at my mom's house. She kept K and she had to be at church early.  I did not have a scarf, so I put my hair in big twists, and my hair stretched some more.  I used some Ecostyler Edge Control on my edges (free with a clear ecostyler gel purchase).

Nude lipstick can go so wrong on pics. Mac Half n Half lipstick with Nycka Brown Lipgloss.

I have a love/hate relationship with this color in my hair. Where has It went. I know I have trimmed pretty heavily the last 3 months.  I kinda want it dark, but I will leave the Black Rinse alone for now, and continue using my Adore Dark Plum Brown Rinse for my gray coverage.  Yes this young tender has some unruly gray hairs. I am thinking about a Streak of color in my hair later this year, and Black Rinse makes lifting the color very difficult.  My last color application was before my big chop around July.

Romper Room

Candice was in town from the  big city of Charlotte, so we planned to go out
to "the club".  In our flyness, we dolled up and had an ok time.  Candice always plans her flyness to the "t" while I am fly on a whim.  I need to plan more because I leave my closet and bedroom complete turmoil.  So I was at Candice's mom's house earlier so our kids could play and catch up. K asked repeatedly all day, is Nay from Charlotte, is Nay in Greenville yet? No....Yes! Let's go see Nay!  As the yungins played it up...She showed me her outfit choices and one was this polka dot Short Romper, that I thrifted for her at Goodwill.  It is super cute and versatile.  So me, with my whim dressing, I looked in my closet, and ran across a Short Romper that I scooped up from Kmart from 3.99.  I picked this up with some other KMart finds that are just chillin in the closet.

So I put on the romper, and put on the biggest earrings I own, and my gold flat sandals.  I walk in the house and Candice has on her Romper, duh Delana.  So it was the battle of the Rompers.  We are shaped different and our Rompers were completely different, so we laughed it off and tore the club up, haha.  I wonder if anyone noticed or cared!
