Smumidity

We need to embrace the frizz and the humidity.  This week with the rain, I am glad I have my blowout. The mist has only softened it, and although I have ran from the rain today, my biggest fear was getting my little cheap Target flats wet. I remember Target used to sell Leather shoes for the same price   I had to turn on the heat in my car to warm up the toes.

Back to hair, it brings me to my conversation today with Judy and her being unhappy with frizz. After straightening and coloring, even the curliest of divas can lose that natural curl.  So for my Caucasian, Latin American, African American Curl friends, and All with curls and waves lets try laying down the irons and straighteners and embrace your curls. Lets try more natural colorants like a Rinse or Semi-Permanent Color so even on the rainiest of days Frizz can be your friend!

Hair Typing is helpful, but not always exact- Read More ...Here are some different style options and steps.  Contact me for clarification.

Wash your hair at night with Volumizing shampoo for fine, limp hair or a
Curl specific shampoo for thicker hair and corresponding conditioners for a minute and rinse well.

Try a light setting spray or leave in conditioner of your choice
or
1 part water or aloe vera juice and 1 part curling mouse in a small spray bottle.

1-Section a portion of hair
2-Spray on the above mixture of choice
3- Split the portion of  hair in two sections and twist the two sections to the end
4a- twirl the ends of the twist with your fingers

Or you can either:
Steps 1-3
4b- Twist n Curl the finished twist by rolling the end with a perm rod or rolling with a roller from end to root

Steps 1-3
4c-Bantu Knot by twirling the twist until it begins to curl onto itself, and wrap it around and secure with a hair pin

5-Put on a bonnet or scarf and go to bed.
In the am
6- untwist and style, if not completely dry, then diffuse it with a blow dryer.

It seems like a lot, but we need to preserve the curlies!

An even easier style for longer hair is...After washing and conditioning hair, you could just use the same mixture and twirl your hair up 1-4 twisted buns and let it dry overnight for body until the am. More for the curlies!

Big Curls

I was so excited about my blowout, I ran to Boo-"Look At my hair!"... He looked at me and said, "What?"...NEXT!  I ran to K "Look at my hair", all I got was a head nod and he ran to his room to play, Really?  I had enough excitement not to let the menfolk get me down.

no part for a serious fro!
After all of the excitement, my hair is not exactly the look I was going for, but at least it is big. Go hair, go hair. Tonite, I will twist my hair with an oldie but goodie from my transitioning days.  SAMY big curls. I hesitantly picked up this closeout item at Bi-Lo.  It actually worked. I would wash my hair and let it air dry, then I would twist it down with the SAMY big curls.  This yielded big defined waves...I was unable to find it for a while until I went to the flea market and a vendor was selling it 2 for $7. I said oh yes, I must buy this and even Sonja bought it.  I do not know why I did not think of  using this after my blowout.  Samy is also sold at Walgreen's (4.99), check out the mixed reviews on Walgreens.com/SAMY

Tonite, I will brush through my hair and apply a small amount of SAMY and flat twist my hair. I hope that we did not use too much of the MJ Stretch Silkening Creme to still have soft waves.

Straight to Textured

So I receive a text on Thursday morning from Sonja, "I know u're gonna get me but I went to my stylist and had my hair straightened again"  Go Girl, but if we are trying to work on these heat trained locks, direct heat needs to be avoided, right?

So Saturday she says, I want you to flat twist the front of my hair and 2strand the back....craziness...noo you have a straight press, just keep it like that and I'll do it next week. Some folk...can't tell 'em nothing.  She'll be reading this later and laughing at us both.  Too much yo.
So she came over today, and I sprayed her hair with Elasta QP H2 leave in conditioning spray and parted off the front of her hair and I flat twisted that area. I 2strand twisted the back and bantu knotted that section w/ a lil Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk and ORS Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Jelly.  Since ms. mommy is walking daily, and she has to wear a hair net at work, so she needs a style to get her through the week.  She will keep it like this until Wednesday and take it down.

So after this, guess who had their hair blow dried...I did, sorry no pics. If anything I will show pics tomorrow of the outcome. I will do an official Blowout and style at my Kinkiversary in Mid September.

Well I...

Prepoo'd- Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Conditioner
Shampoo- Creme of Nature Nourishing Shampoo & Giovanni Smooth as Silk Shampoo
Conditioner- Tresseme Naturals, detangled
Leave in- Aloe Vera Juice, Kinky Curly Knot Today, Jojoba oil and Grapeseed oil (modified Kimmaytube leave in) Sprayed on some Elasta QP H2 Leave in

I detangled a lil more and sectioned hair in about 8 sections and Sonja sprayed some IC Fantasia Heat protectant on each section and blow dried my now tender headed mane like a mad person.  I could not believe how much hair I had, super huge, and my ends...lets just say, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!!

We then two strand twisted my hair with Miss Jessie's Silkening Stretch Cream, and rolled the ends on white perm rods.  I am crossing my fingers for cute hair tomorrow. We shall see.

The Waterpark

Kinston and I went to the Waterpark with Sonja and Zarrii. We had so much fun.  So I knew my hair would get a lil wet right?  Natural Hair, don't care about no water right?  I do, my poor stretched fro was shrunken by my "chlorine water splashin" yungin'.  He thought it was so funny to splash water on mommy, and all I could do was run and scream.

So you know my hair needs some clarifying and super moisture, ASAP!

Romper Room

I enjoyed a going away/congratulatory dinner tonight for a coworker.   It's 2am Saturday morning, and I am still going...think about that. The Channel in Downtown Greenville has an interesting menu.  They even had chicken n waffles, a southern fave.  All of the burgers are named after Greenville street names and attractions. I ate a huge burger with bacon, fried egg, and cheese. Shame, and then sweet potato fries.  Why did I eat that burger, it sure made it hard to suck in the midsection.

My hair was a follow up to the wash n fluff.  I twisted my hair with Elasta QP leave in and Softee Coconut Oil Hairdress. I flat twisted the perimeter up and twisted the top and
I wore a beautiful in your face Romper with some ombre green earrings, and patent leather wood heeled pumps. After the party, I changed into my black Gladiator sandals.  I loved the combination, and so did this older gentleman passing by. "You look nice, get 'm tiger"  Get 'em tiger?  How Great!!!

Signature Style

The Kitchen was open for business Thursday Nite Honey.  This style was great, and lasted 2 weeks on the last install.  Her hair was maintained & kept moisturized with STA-SOF-FRO conditioning spray, please let your soul glow, because her hair was super moisturized and a breeze to detangle.

prepoo- saturate hair and detangle with Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat
shampoo- Elasta QP Shampoo for Relaxed Hair
conditioner- Elasta QP Intense
Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in
Olive Oil
Twist with Carol's Daughter Honey Hair Mimosa

I sectioned the hair in about 8 puffs and began the flat twists and left the portion out in the top to twist in individual 2strand twists.

After all of the hair was braided up, I rolled and tucked all loose ends. That's when the artist juices flow:)
Leosha has about 2-3 inches of relaxer left, and there may be a big chop on her 12 month post relaxer mark in 2.5 months! GO.

  The more moisturized your hair is, the more manageable it is.  I have learned from a huge mistake I encountered recently;

Never go to the beautician with a tight un-moisturized fro.  If anything, at least cowash the night before or day of, because the stylist will swear that your hair is the worst ever, and shame on you for not coming in earlier.

Happy Blues

Hey peeps, this Polyvore ensemble was inspired by my outfit selection below, offering options for the happy blues...

Blue just keeps jumping out of my closet at me. I paired my favorite “50 cent thrift” blue britches from Goodwill, with a shirt that has failed me on a few try’s. This beautiful hued blouse is tooo…blousy.  Definitely cuter on the hanger, It has buttons down the front and back. The first time I wore it to work (paired with blousy leopard pants), I felt like I had on Pajamas, so I ran to TJ Maxx, and changed my shirt.  A lil much, but I just couldn’t do it.  I wanted to really show the richness of the Royal Blue separates; enjoy the hand on the hip action :)

My hair was a wash n fluff:
cowash – Paul Mitchell The Detangler
afterpoo – Olive oil
raked with IC Fantasia Gel
pulled it up in a puff with my stretch band and left out the front for a little bang action.

Comfy Cute

I almost decided not to post this pic, because the outfit was not great, but its what I wore yesterday..comfy and cute enough.  I picked this orange bag up at TJ Maxx yesterday, and replaced the black purse I originally wore to work.  It was almost a take back, but I think I'll keep it.  It also came in teal, black, and red...decisions...decisions.  I just wish it came in fuchsia.

Someone asked me if it was Dooney & Bourke, uh no, its actually no name at all...Do you think it's a keeper?

Color & Cameras

How do you like that, the perfect mix-colorblock situation. Adriane is wearing a pale yellow tank, aqua cardigan, blue skirt, and neon pink belt. This child always says to me that she just can't put outfits or colors together. I can't tell, super cute...
I took her pic with my recently found camera that has been out of operation for almost 2 years.  I needed to check the color quality, and it's pretty good (camera) for an oldie.

I was on the search for a camera with a reasonable price point, and I thought of my pitiful Kodak that I have not used due to a missing Charger/USB cord.
My sis and I have had ended up having the same type of cameras twice over the past ten years.  So I say that to say this...She lost my 1st camera at her college graduation-she left in someone's car and it was never seen again???  Then when we were roomies, she was always borrowing my 2nd one's USB/Charger kit, and the kit came up missing???  I found my/her Kodak cord one day in her room.  At least I thought that was it, but the plug never fit in my camera, strange but today I decided to try it again yesterday and it fit perfectly...User Error>>>

Anywho, I look forward to taking pics for KinksMyWay with it, but the Nikon Coolpix is definitely on my wish list

Neon?

I cannot help my repeated shades of pink with shades of blue.  Magenta, Navy and Neon Yellow-perfection right?  I had my momma take my pic and she asked, "Now where does that pocketbook come in ?", and shook her head!  I don't know I just love Neon, especially neon Yellow, believe me the neon trend is one I certainly adore.  I searched all over for neon purses and I could not find one anywhere...until I was searching through Polyvore one day and it led me to this Aldo beauty at ASOS.com, I was too excited. I am wearing it as a clutch here, but it is the perfect crossbody bag also.  ASOS UK had my bag here within a week.  I enjoy this bag with many combinations.  More to come...

Festive Weekend

What a great weekend! My Sister celebrated a wonderful 30th Birthday Dinner that brought on the waterworks, reminiscent of me at my Birthday Dinner.  Everyone was Dressed to the Nines.  I wore a dress that I had for a while from an end of season sale at Kmart, yep KMart for 3.99. You can’t beat that. It was a Dark Teal gathered waist, knee length dress. Even at knee length, Boo thought it was too short-child please. I paired it with my Magenta Dolce Vita Pumps, and my newly popped tag Steve Madden gold&black clutch made an appearance.

My makeup was not my favorite combination, that was mostly due to my foundation choice. Sometimes my MAC Studio Fix NC50 can be too dark, and I feel it was since my eye, cheek, and lip choice were darker, I should’ve went with my lighter MAC ProlongWear foundation in NC45. Too much to think of at times!  I opted for the fro that is so much smaller on pics.  Why do pics add weight to your face and body, but not your hair???

Natural Rudeness & Spiderman

Kinston and I were waiting on a parking space to see Spiderman, and all of a sudden, a lady with an ill shaped fro blocked me so she could take the space. Oh no, so I pulled around and she backed up to reaaallly block me and almost hit me, so I blowed the horn and kept it moving. I saw Ms. Natural Rudeness with that ill shaped fro and thought you nappy headed...
PSA:  Why would I say such a thing, so derrogatory, but it was what I was feeling at the time.  The negative connotations of our hair is something we all need to embrace and overcome.  The increased saturation of naturals over time will improve those views, so I hope that natural hair is more than a phase or trend.
Anyway, I kept it moving and found a better parking space. Thank ya very much. I was walking fast to buy my ticket, and I saw her and thought further mean things about her rudeness as she purchased her Magic Mike ticket-really!
As the ticket lady waited for me while I could not find my card, neither could the natural-meanie-parking-space stealing lady.  I found my card, and I looked at her and said it... you are wrong for taking that space, and you were coming from the wrong direction, just rude....wheww, I felt better, I got her told, and she just looked at me as if she wanted to lay in on me and she was the bigger person and just walked away.

well whatever, ya rude.  Oh well, there will be no high fiving with that natural and sharing hair stories or products suggestions.

Kinston and I went on in the movie theater with our cousins to see Spiderman, although good and the new Peter Parker was very entertaining, It was long and K was scared.

Pink & Gold

Well today, I wore my favorite skirt. I wear this poor maxi skirt too much in many ways.  It was a $4 and some change find at Old Navy.  Today, I paired it with a shirt that never gets that much play due to the color, it's a mustard, more like a gold, button down, sleeveless, satin like situation, that I bought at GAP a couple years back.  This morning, I was rushing with no thoughts of ironing, and these two just needed to be together today. I initially tucked in my shirt and wore a black belt to break it up. By the time I went to work and went to the restroom, I said Oh no, this has to change. Sooo...I pulled out the shirt and threw the belt on top, Voila, a match made in heaven.

My big boy Kinston took these pics. I kept buggin him while playing Sonic on his 3DS. He is always taking my pics with that game system, so why not put his skills to use. I hope you love it, too. I guess it's best he missed my shoes, since my toes look a mess. After this post, I am handling the toes!

Curl Envy & Curly Nikki | I Hate My Hair.

This is my last attempt at a wash n go, or I am getting a perm, my hair straightened, or I am going to Big Chop my hair again.  For real?? Maybe this style is not for you.  Natural hair has so many heat & chemical free options.
My curlfriend has spent so much money on products to have those wash an go curls on "heat trained” hair. Some say heat train, I say heat damage.  She has stretched curls in the back and straight hair in the front.

She had already called her stylist for an appointment to succumb to the hot comb and flatiron that put her in this multi-textured mess in the first place. I told her everyone was not meant to wash n go, and even the curliest of sisters must maintain/style their hair with, twists, braids, Bantu knots, or rollers. Almost everyone has to style their hair.

So back to K.I.S.S...

K.I.S.S.

Keep It Simple & Save... Stop worrying about finding the perfect product to:
define curl
retain length
keep moisture
and...
You can spend hours and upwards of 100's of dollars on the perfect product. Do your research and study individuals' hair who may be similar, then purchase.  Purchase from a retailer that accepts returns and do just that. Return it. If the product does not do what is promises, take/send it back.

Believe me if I am not satisfied, I will get my money back or exchange it. No shame. One of my friends (Maris) advised me that she does not know anyone that returned a car. Well believe me, I DID!  I do not play; I bought a car that promised better Miles Per Gallon, and it did not deliver, so it was what?  RETURNED and exchanged for the vehicle that really has great MPG.

I digress, my point is return it, or better yet, just stop buying all of these over promised, less than performing Products.

K.I.S.S. and use products containing more natural products.  Avoid sulfates-sodium lauryl-especially ammonium laureth/lauryl sulfates, parabens, mineral oil or petrolatum, and limit silicones.  A few steps, but simple enough to follow are listed below.

weekly:
sulfate free shampoo
moisturizing conditioner from same line & detangle
leave in spray
light oil
always stretch hair with twists or braids w/
a setting lotion, moisturizing cream, or hair butter

daily tips:
use bonnet nightly
twist/braid with aloe vera juice or moisturizer at night as needed

monthly options:
put it up once/month-protective style
clarify/apple cider vinegar rinse once

trim ends as needed
no heat
Fully use all of the product until completely used, then repurchase or try a new product line, but if it's tried and true...Just keep using it!

Try to maintain your hair yourself and visit a Stylist once every 2-3 months for a change of style, deep condition, hydration treatment, or just some relief.  K.I.S.S.
