To my natural BFFs, Candice and LaTwan. These besties have been in the Kitchen since the WU (Winthrop University) days. We have been through thick and thin with hair, menfolk, and life.
After many talks of being natural and the process of transitioning, my besties did it. They started their natural journey during my second natural attempt-I hopped off the ride for about a year and now I’m back. A trip right? In 1997, I stopped eating pork and red meat, and most of my friends stopped and then I started eating Bacon and Burgers again. That ain’t right!?!

LaTwan last relaxed on November 2009. Her transition was mainly getting her hair straightened. After she grew tired of not getting the curl definition she wanted, she slowly cut of the “heat trained ends”, and is a fan of flat twist outs, twisted updos, and wash n go’s. She has tried several stylists in NC, and have been successful, and has only a couple horror stories. She has learned some self styling, too bad I am no longer in NC or we would have been hooking it up in the Kitchen.
Then Candice decided to transition from relaxed July 2010. We rod set her hair on several occasions and she even learned to rod set her own hair, and I BC’d it 6-7 months later. Too Cute…
Although the best of friends, our textures are different, so what works for one may not work for the other, but it (hair) is All Good! I will make sure these kinky, coily sistas share their hairstories on KMW.
