Welcome to KinksMyWay...Delana

Hello Sisters of Kinks, Coils, Curls, Waves, and Straight Hair. I am Delana Pruitt of KinksMyWay. I have contemplated blogging, but writing and staying on top of Social Media is not necessarily my strongsuit...ie. email and voice mail are almost always full, and I am too past due on checking Facebook.  I am making a Change!!!
I love all things Fashion, Hair, Makeup, and of course Music. I am a fan of many blogs on the low-low, and now I need to express myself beyond my daily interactions with Hair and Fashion. I want to share it with you and many all over the globe.
I have had this connection to Natural Hair forever! This is my third attempt at being Natural. My 1st attempt was in October of 2000, I grew my relaxer out for 4 months and I went to my Friend's brother who was a barber and he cut all my hair off. I say that as if i did not ask him to do it...I was mad at him and devastated with myself. The first three people to witness it all...I went home and my momma gave me the blankest stare, my daddy just hugged me, and my uncle said, "well its just hair, it'll grow back". That's the upside. The fourth witness was the most crucial, my boyfriend-now ex. "Why the hell did you cut your hair? he was so mad, he couldn't look at me or talk to me.  He said he wanted his pretty girlfriend back. Needless to say we were not together too much longer after that! For a year all I did with no YouTube and no fellow naturals, was wash/condition/blow dry and cornrow my hair (braidout). I wore an afro in different ways all of the time. I became pretty bored with this soooo.... I went to a stylist and he relaxed it. I had Oprah hair again! Gettin' it! I lost bout 60 pounds, you really could not tell me anything!!!

6 years later, I was about to go natural again, after I had too many attempts to color my own hair a beautiful Cinnamon Red. Bye-bye thickness, bye bye...so I had to work with some thinning, breaking, not so cute hair for a few months. After my hair was thriving, I relaxed again with a mild relaxer and kept trucking until 2009.

I have always had a lot of hair, not really long, just thick and big! So family and other people were always more obsessed with it than I was. I love to switch it up so much that most thought I was close to insane! "How do you have all that pretty hair, and always cuttin' in it?" "Some people can't grow no hair", that always made me feel bad:(...shame on me.

Shame on me again...I had began stretching my relaxer for 12 plus weeks over a few months and My 2nd attempt was February '09 after my last stretch/relaxer and I was going to transition as long as I could.  August '09 I did it, what is now known as the Big Chop, all by myself.  This failed natural attempt lasted until March of 2010, when I was subjected to doing something I never succumb to-what somebody else thought. I had my hair pressed and it lasted for almost two weeks. It was tight, I should have known that my kinks would not fully revert back. Two months later, my current boyfriend asked when was I going to have my pretty hair back...I know, but I was stressed and pulling and messing with my hair nonstop, I texlaxed my hair. I mixed relaxer, conditioner, and oil and went to it. I enjoyed texlaxing and wash and go's for about 5 months and I finally relaxed it.

After that, I said no more, so now, my 3rd charmed attempt is now official. My last relaxer was February 2011. I BC'd myself on September 2011. Say something now Boo! No, no, no..who gone check me Boo!?!  My One Year Kinkiversary is coming up soon. I'll be 19 months post relaxer, and one year fully natural on September ?th 2012.

whewww, in a nutshell I have styled my own hair, and many kitchen clients for years. KinksMyWay will focus on Me, Expressions, and my daily Musings!  So just lay back, kick it, and enjoy the ride...xscape with me to KinksMyWay!

  2. Go Delana! Awesome...I'm awful at this too but I will be following you! So excited for your new venture. You look awesome! I'm enjoying my natural, but I must say I keep it moving. And a blowout flatten is one of my faves. I just don't do it often. So from one big, thick haired sister to another: ROCK ON WICHA BAD SELF! My prophyte is no joke!
